You're going to see Manowar with Hamzik? I didn't know that he was back. How recent is this? _________________ Real Eyes, Realize, Penis Size

He's been back on and off since 2008 I think. They're pretty vague about it, but it seems like Scott's out of the picture. |

That can only be good news, as Scott's performance the last ten years or more has been stale at best. It will be interesting to hear if the old guy (Hamzik) still has it. Let me know. _________________ Real Eyes, Realize, Penis Size

I was looking for something like that but got lost watching old vids from the 80's... I wish they'd bring Ross back too, he's so much better than that Logan joke. |

Yes, that clip was actually enjoyable. It's along time since I've seen a Manowar live clip I enjoyed. Maybe I should try to catch them live sometime in the future. Watched a small interview with Hamzik too, seems like a really nice guy. _________________ Real Eyes, Realize, Penis Size

According to the setlist I saw they play not one single song off the first 4 albums, so I'd wait until the next tour if I were you...
Anyway, back to drums.
I love Hamzik's drumming on Battle Hymns, it's extremely energetic and creative. I love it when a drummer sounds like he's playing a song for the first time and he's just brimming with ideas and inspiration. Scott's brutally spartan playing on Into Glory Ride was also impressive at the time, not sure what happened to that guy over the years... |

I suppose he got a case of the Charlie Watts. It seems like he just did it as a job. No fire, no creativity, just keeping it as simple and steady as possible. _________________ Real Eyes, Realize, Penis Size

So Ed, after a long time without bothering you here I am again! What's yer take on Van Williams, the Nevermore drummer? _________________ ...But I believe that, as a species, human beings define their reality through suffering and misery. Didn't know his name to be honest, but he's pretty good if a bit anonymous. For some reason I'm not that much into Nevermore, although it's a band I feel I should dig. I have most their albums, seen 'em live, but the spark never really occurs... will give them another shot if I find myself with an abundance of spare time. |

Ed, I was just watching the new Novembers Doom clip "A Eulogy For the Living Lost" what do you think about it? I Really like the whole rolling sound of the drums, it's kinda difficult to describe.

Wow, let's do something radical here and actually answer a question...
I really like November's Doom (they're all massive HoB fans too, haha), nice drumming indeed and a great tune! |

When I was a kid starting to learn how to play I had a video of the Michael Schenker Group with the great, late Cozy Powell on drums. I played that tape literally to shreds trying to figure out Cozy's playing, so I was more than thrilled to see that same show has just been released on DVD!
Cozy of course was and is the God of hard-hitters, the main reason I started using a second bass drum and still one of the the main inspirations behind my style and set-up. At some point I also had 2 26" kicks and beat the drums with 3S marching sticks just like him, although I could barely hold them. On the Star One recordings I did a few weeks ago I'm paying homage to the master quite a bit, one song in particular just begged for some Kill The King style fills and Arjen Lucassen is as much of a Cozy fan as I am so we had a lot of fun throwing this stuff in there.
Anyways, just thought I'd share this most enjoyable trip down memory lane, the DVD is well worth checking out not just for Cozy but also for Schenker's blistering playing. That guy was a fucken genius once. |

I never really listened to anything featuring Cozy, except for After the War by Gary Moore (at least I think he plays on that one, correct me if I'm wrong). Maybe I should check out that DVD if it's as good as you say. _________________ Real Eyes, Realize, Penis Size

To mine as well! After Arjen basically pulled the plug on Ayreon and made an album with another drummer (Chris Maitland on Guilt Machine) I was afraid our working relationship was done. Much to my delight I received an e-mail from him a few months ago and at the bottom it said “ps: Star One?”, to which I replied with a resounding “YES!”. The songs are very heavy, and the drumsessions went extremely well. I got to work with Oscar Holleman again for the first time in ages, and if half of the drumsound makes it into the final mix it’ll still be massive. I’m not sure how much I’m allowed to disclose at this point, but much of the Space Metal crew is returning for this as well as some surprise guests… This’ll be a good year for me, with Demiurg, Hail Of Bullets and Star One all hitting the shelves during the next few months! |

It might not be the best starting point if you're not already a fan. I will skip the "what, you never...?" phase and highly recommend giving Rainbow Rising and Long Live Rock 'n Roll a listen for some prime Cozy. |

I have a question, Ed... What's the highest BPM you can blast at? And for how long can you hold it? _________________
